Company History & Background
The Live Action Theatre Project (LATP) is a Montreal based collective founded in 2014 by Julia Ainsworth & Rosaruby Kagan Glaberman. Our original form of interactive theatre combines improvisation and scripted dialogue within a branching story structure to actively engage audiences with critical subjects. We utilize media technologies and audience interaction to enhance participation and engagement. Inspired by gaming culture, forum theatre and leading research in the field of empathy development, Live Action Theatre is a theatrical form of perspective taking, which activates personal investment in performance and elicits an enhanced capacity for empathy and understanding. Our interactive format makes for a unique, intense and intimately charged experience.
To date we have produced four original work and conducted three artistic research laboratories. We offer interactive workshops to complement our plays, led by our team of professional theatre artists, educators and drama therapists. Our work has been showcases at McGill University (Montreal,QC), Centaur Theatre (Montreal, QC), SpringWorks Festival (Stratford, ON), Ta Da Festival (Wakefield), Hudson Village Theatre (Hudson, QC), Arts Alive Festival (Pointe-Claire, QC), Shortstanding Festival(Montreal, QC) & Lolipop Series (Kirkland, QC).
“True interactive theatre, not just grabbing a front row spectator for a minute or two on the stage. Top notch performances. Lots of spontaneity.”
- Byron Toben, Quebec Drama Observer
